The three herbs Indian kitchens have kept in the cupboard for as long as anyone
has been keeping records. Turmeric, ashwagandha and tulsi, none of them
caffeinated, all of them earthy rather than sweet.

Fair warning: this is the least dessert-like box we make. If you want fruit,
buy the Glow Stack. These three taste like roots and leaves, because that is
what they are.

Three pouches, 155 cups, more than any other stack we make, and 30% off buying
them separately.

What is in the box

Turmeric Ashwagandha, Loose Tea 7.05oz, 100+ cups. Twice the size of the other
two pouches and the best value tea in the whole range at about 22 cents a cup.
Turmeric with ashwagandha root and lemongrass. Warm, earthy and quite bitter on
its own. Honey is not cheating. Neither is milk.

Tulsi Comfort, 25 Pyramid Bags. Holy basil, which is the plant grown in the
courtyard of a great many Indian homes. Peppery and slightly clove-like,
closer to a herb than a tea, and the easiest of the three to drink black.

Daily Detox, 30 Pyramid Bags. Turmeric and ginger with other botanicals.
Gentler and rounder than the straight Turmeric Ashwagandha, and the one for
a day when you cannot face the loose leaf.

How to brew all three

Boiling water, cover the cup, 5 to 8 minutes. Roots release slowly and almost
everybody pulls them too early, which is the single most common reason a
turmeric tea tastes of nothing. Two heaped teaspoons of the loose Turmeric
Ashwagandha per cup.

A little black pepper in the turmeric ones is traditional. So is milk, which
surprises people, and it takes the edge off the bitterness better than sugar
does.

Bought direct from gardens in India, blended by hand in small batches. No
flavour sprays, no additives, no caffeine in any of the three.

These herbs have a long history of traditional use in Indian households. This
is tea, not medicine, and nothing here is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or
prevent any condition.

This tea contains ashwagandha. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, take
thyroid medication, or take anything that affects your immune system, speak to
your doctor before drinking it regularly.

How to brew it

Three teas, three rules

Nothing here is fussy. Each tea wants one thing, and once you know which of the three it belongs to you will get it right every time.

Chai

Boil it, do not steep it

Boilingin a pan, with milk
6 minfor two cups

Two heaped teaspoons in a cup of water, boil hard for two minutes, add a cup of milk and bring it back. Sugar goes in the pan, not the cup.

Black

Straight off the kettle

Boiling212F
3 to 5minutes

One heaped teaspoon, boiling water, and take it out on time. Past five minutes the tannins come through and it turns sharp. Takes milk well.

Green

Never boiling water

175F80C
2 to 3minutes

Let the kettle stand two minutes off the boil first. Boiling water is what makes green tea bitter. About a third the caffeine of coffee.
